Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — the multiple choice test has 50 questions and a pass mark of 43 (86%) in all three countries. Scotland has a different drink-drive limit (50mg vs 80mg in England/Wales), which may appear in questions. Northern Ireland uses the DVA rather than DVSA but the test format is identical.

The DVSA Theory Test costs £23 to book. This covers both the multiple choice section and the hazard perception section. UKDriving.uk practice tests are always free.

The full session lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes. The multiple choice section allows 57 minutes for 50 questions. The hazard perception section then presents 14 video clips for you to identify developing hazards.

Yes. The multiple choice section and the hazard perception section are taken together on the same day. If you fail one part, you must retake the entire test (both sections).

Your Theory Test pass certificate is valid for 2 years. You must pass the practical driving test within that period, otherwise your Theory Test certificate expires and you must retake it.

Our practice tests focus on the multiple choice section. For hazard perception practice, we recommend using the official DVSA practice materials available at gov.uk.
